Hanoi University of Education

1. Foundation Date: October 11th, 1951.

2. Mandate

The Hanoi University of Education (formerly Hanoi Teacher Training College No.1) is the oldest higher education institution in providing undergraduate and postgraduate teacher education in Vietnam.

It is incumbent upon the University to train a contingent of teachers at all levels, ranging from early-childhood, primary and secondary teachers to tertiary level lecturers for Hanoi and the northern provinces of Vietnam; to offer postgraduate training and refresher courses; and to diversify its forms of training with a view to enhancing people''s academic standards and intellectual development, training human resources, and grooming individual talents. It is also regarded as a National Key Research centre for both fundamental and educational sciences.

3. Degrees and Courses

A wide range of courses is available in the following programs:
- Undergraduate courses leading to a Bachelor''s Degree
(4 years).
- Postgraduate courses leading to a Master''s Degree (2 years). Doctoral Degree courses (3 years for Master holders, 4 years for Bachelor holders).
- Specialized Secondary School courses for grade 10, 11, 12 students gifted in Mathematics and Information Technology
(3 years).
- Refresher courses for teachers and administrators from all sectors offered at the University campus or in specific regional locations.
- Training courses for specialized branches of basic sciences offered to meet the demands of educational reforms.
- Flexible Courses of Vietnamese Studies (Language, Culture, History...) for foreigners.
- Distance Learning Courses - by correspondence.

6. Faculty and Students

Hanoi University of Education employs over 1,000 staff members. Of its 793 teaching staff, 36 are Professors, 118 are Associate Professors, 320 have doctorates and the rest are master holders.

7. International Co-operation

A major priority of the Hanoi University of Education is to forge and develop international links. It is consistently involved in the establishment of bilateral cooperative relationships. It engages in this effort to strengthen the ties of understanding and friendship, including the following forms:
- Exchange between faculties and students for research, study and teaching.
- Exchange of information, teaching materials, and research publications.
- Joint organization of seminars, workshops and conferences.
Hanoi University of Education is also an exchange-oriented institution. The large Foreign Students Hostel on campus provides residential enrollment positions for the Hanoi University of Education and caters for international activities based on residential programs. The active International Relations Office is involved in developing regional and international opportunities. The followings are some of its international ventures.
- Teacher Training in Special Education programs supported by the Committee II of the Netherlands.
- Training of scholarship students from Laos and Cambodia in its undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
- The university''s alumni include over 400 Bachelor and over 40 Master and Doctoral level international graduates from all parts of the world.
- Its international reputation is further demonstrated through strong international co-operation and involvement with the universities in Australia, Europe, America and the Asian region./.
